Newbie: Just Learned About The Gathering

Well folks I’m at that tender age of 39 and have been dreading the date when my birthday comes and I turn 40.
Looking back over last few months it’s not 40 that I have been scared of it has actually been 39, I wasn’t looking forward to my 39th for many reasons, my mum had just passed away a few weeks before and I was that step closer to the big 40.
I have now decided to put all the fear and worry behind me and hit my 40th with a bang, it’s not the age, that’s just a tag, it’s the spirit and the feeling inside that matters most.
Turning 40 shouldn’t change anything, others have managed it and survived so why should I worry about it, I won’t suddenly go out and by brown corduroyed trousers and sandals, checked pyjamas and a pair of slippers.
I turn 40 a few days before The Gathering and I’m treating myself to The Grand Hotel this year, but I would like suggestions on what I should do, if you are already 40 what did you do?
Help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

James

For my fortieth (5 years ago now!) I had my head shaved for Charity and went off to Africa (my hair was way too long - 28 inches! My wife pestered me for ages so I said I'd get it done if others paid for it so I could make the trip to Kenya and Tanzania).

Must admit though that 40 is not so bad. If you love life it doesn't matter what age you are.

Bevan will give you some tips as he apparently just turned 40 (though he is living in denial!)And no, Doug didn't put me up to it! lol!

I know i have had the pleasure in meeting you at a few gigs now. Lol

It's strange because I was dreading the old 40 thing for the first part of this year but now that there is just over 6 months to go I'm kind of looking foward to it.

I remember Andy Summers of The Police saying hitting 40 was like 'being in the second week of your holidays'........
