Time to choose your favourite North Walians
Jun 1 2009 by Martin Williams, Daily Post

Please email your nominations to martin.williams@dailypost.co.uk by this Friday, 5th June.

NOMINATIONS for the 30 greatest North Walians continue to flood in to the Daily Post.

Former Prime Minister David Lloyd-George, from Llanystumdwy, is among the front runners, along with tenor David Lloyd.

Other choices include Ian Rush, Lemmy, Mike Peters, Dawn French and Robin McBryde.

Dick Edwards, from Flintshire, said Bryn Terfel deserves the title, and added: “It’s a great idea to see who comes out as the top 30 North Walians of all time, and it will be even more intriguing to see who is voted number one.

“My vote goes to Bryn Terfel, a brilliant bass baritone, a truly international star and a great ambassador for Wales.”

Alan Winstanley, via e-mail, chose a more regal figurehead.

He said: “What about Edmund Tudor? The founder of the Tudor dynasty that ruled this country in the 16th century, and whose son became Henry VII, who was the father of Henry VIII and grandfather of Elizabeth I.

“He’s a true Welshman who was born at Pembroke Castle on January 28, 1457. He married Margaret Beaufort, who at a later date gave monies to fund the building of the marble church at Bodelwyddan.”
