Being a "paying" member of U2.com was able to listen to the new U2 single "Get On Your Boots" scheduled for a Feburary 15th release date.
Thought the title was ironic, given Mikes "Get Your Boots On Theme" for LHSF.
Was curious what others thought of the new U2 single and their sonic change of course. It sonically sounds like Mike's new work.
This begs the question - are Mike and Bono talking more than we know?
Put me down for wanting to hear The Alarm perform this at G17. This would have the same impact as Jimi Hendrix playing "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band" for John and Paul prior to the official release in a London Pub oh so long ago it seems (the original Rock and Roll Circus).

You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call failure is not the falling down, but the staying down - Mary Pickford
Nah, not my cup of tea. Last U2 album I bought was the Joshua Tree and that was the last time I went to see them live back in '86 (Glasgow SECC) (worst gig I have ever been to and to this date the only gig I have ever walked out of). IMO they are the most over rated band in the world. sorry to the die hards, just my opinion.
Have listened to the new single 4 times and whilst I realise certain songs don't have an instant appeal and are "growers" feel this is a track without a tune and am bitterly disappointed. Their last 3 albums (Pop, All that you can't leave behind and How to dismantle) IMO have all fallen way short off what went before and if they tour up here in Scotland I for 1 will not be forking out the £100 for a ticket.

Crap, crap, crap is what the new single is! The most overrated band in the world without doubts! The biggest newspaper in Sweden gave them horrible - (scale - to 5+) today! "Major crap, U2" is the headline for the review.
"I can do without the things I want, But I can't do without the things I need"
Have gone onto youtube and listened a few more times - think I've heard it enough to enable me to make up my OWN mind - still think it's feeble. I wish to say 2 things - it is also my honest opinion that The Joshua Tree is perhaps one of the greatest albums I own and I bow in reverence to a band that have been together nearly 30 years without a change to their line up but for sheer consistancy in maintaining a high standard in quality music - YOU CAN'T BEAT THE ALARM.

I've heard it about 20 times now and it gets no better.
And dougm, no problem mate, just my opinion. I don't know why, but I think U2 have always been a terrible studio band. I mean, POP was awful on album but sounded excellent live.
But, U2 the name sells and this and the album along with the tour will sell sell sell.
