I heard that rumour as well from a "source" who can't be named. Not sure if it is going to happen considering that The Alarm boys are pretty busy themselves in November. If there is any truth to it I'm sure it will come out sooner rather than later.
"There is Beauty Out There Somewhere I Will Leave No Stone Unturned"
My mistake, its actually December they play Glasgow. Although its sold out, here is where I got the info from on the SECCs website:
Simple Minds will perform for the first time the entirety of their 1982 album ‘New Gold Dream' featuring the hits ‘Promised You a Miracle', ‘Glittering Prize', and ‘Someone, Somewhere (In Summertime)'.
The second half of the concert will see the band perform some of their best known songs from their classic albums starting off with ‘Life in a Day' (1979), ‘Reel To Reel Cacophony' (1979), ‘Empires & Dance (1980), right up to their groundbreaking first album with Virgin, ‘Sons & Fascination (1980) featuring the hit ‘Love Song' .
The band will also highlight songs from the album ‘Sparkle in the Rain' (1984) that includes the hits ‘Waterfront' and ‘Up On The Catwalk', as well as the U.S. No.1 hit single ‘Don't You Forget About Me' (1985), plus the benchmark album ‘Once Upon A Time' (1985) featuring the massive global anthem ‘Alive and Kicking'.
But that's not all. The band will also perform songs like ‘Belfast Child' from 1989's ‘Street Fighting Years' right up to 2004's return-to-form album ‘Black & White 050505' featuring the songs ‘Home' and ‘Stranger'.
Special Guests for the Glasgow concert just announced - The Alarm
Thu 4th Dec 2008 7.30 p.m. £35 SOLD OUT Available from SECC Box Office: 0870 040 4000
A workmate of mine was going so I told him he'd love The Alarm and he was really looking forward to seeing them. But his car broke down on the way there and he got into the venue just in time to hear the last chords of 68 Guns and Mikey saying "Thank you very much. We are The Alarm, God bless, goodnight!"
I was relying on him giving me a blow by blow account. Booooo!
I arrived at the SECC at 7.40 and the Alarm were allready on stage so unfortunately I missed the first couple of songs.
From what I remember they played:
Strength Absolute Reality RITS Spirit of 76 Rescue Me (45RPM) 68 Guns
After the intimacy of 3 Friday nights at King Tuts it was great to see the Alarm in a big arena. Unfortunately while they were playing the hall seemed to be only half full.(what a waste) Mike was full of energy getting the crowd going. Steve's Drum playing sounded brilliant in the huge hall. Special mention also has to be made for James who seemed to be so up for it last night.
I got the best of both worlds that night, seeing one of my favourite bands supporting the other!! I was about 3 rows from the front with a large Welsh flag in attendance (not bad for a Sintelliner!!) Shame about the lack of folk who were in while the Alarm were on, but the band were well up for it regardless, and impressed quite a few folk who had travelled globally for the gig (my pal next to me was from Perth, Australia, and was well happy with what she heard)
The band opened up with Three Sevens Clash, before going into Where Were You Hiding When The Storm Broke. I think the rest of the setlist is as listed above by a previous poster. They were on for about 45 minutes.
