My own personal story of back-stage at the Henry fonda Theeater in LA - Steve Fulton

"I turned around to see Mike Peters walking through the alley gate, and greeted by Billy Duffy, and Ian Ashbury, the guitarist and lead vocalist from The Cult. I'd met Billy Duffy before (I stole the ball and scored a goal on his team during a 5-a-side soccer game in Wales 10 years ago, but that's a whole different story), but I'd never seen Ian Ashbury in person before. Again, it was like a weird dream where random people from the 80's start showing-up unannounced. I half expected to Adam Ant and Captain Sensible enjoying a cup of tea around the next corner. Anyway, Ashbury looks a lot like Steven Tyler these days, and in a massive cliche, he's much shorter in person than I imagined.

Steve,

Thank you so much for writing that piece!!! I LOVED it!

I wrote a little comment, on the Alarm site, about seeing Slim Jim and Billy Duffy, at the 7/24/08 Hollywood show, heading towards that side exit to go backstage.

Secretly I wanted go backstage and wanted to see these guys interact and all the "rock and roll" stories ... that's nothing new. I think it's a natural feeling to want to connect to the people you admire. I always feel like I'm "missing something" if I go to the Alarm show but don't get to "hang with the band." Your piece allows me to enjoy future Alarm shows even THAT much more, knowing I'm not "missing something." You can't help but want to be near your heroes but it's nice to know that the best part is just soaking up the great performance. I completely relate to the "dork/what am I doing here" feeling when waiting after the show. I've met Mike Peters before and he was amazing, as everyone knows. But most of the time I leave after about 10 minutes of thinking "what am I doing here?" That includes the Hollywood show. I got the chance to say Hi to Steve Grantley and he was awesome (as another fan commented).

Anyways, thanks for your "fly on the wall" look at being "Backstage"... it really connected... and thanks for all your work on the site over these years Steve!

LOVE THE NEW ALARM ALBUM!

Mike S.
