Newbie: Bought A Bolo Tie

Hi Mike & Jules,
First time on the forum (so I hope I'm doing this right!)...long time fan and just wanted to say thanks for many years of fantastic meaningful music...whatever the band setup! My life changed at Guildford Civic Hall 1985 when I saw you live for the first time...I guess it was my moment as you had staring into the eyes of Johnny Rotten way back! Over 30+ gigs later, and looking forward to seeing you rock at Cambridge in a few weeks. So here's the cheek...my step son (16 yrs old) is wanting to make it as a live band photographer and is at college learning his trade. He's done quite a few local bands around the midlands to some moderate success / coverage. Of course he is a great Alarm fan taking you in live last year down in London. What chance you could wangle him a pass to take photos at the up coming Cambridge gig to give him a great experience and top band to his portfolio! Well, if you don't ask! Cheers, and keep on rocking, climbing and enthusing us all. Bryan

Hi Mike! There aren't enough words to begin describe how great your music is and how great of a humanitarian you are. All of your music is in my IPOD, and I am listening to must at the moment is Be Still and Plastic Carrier Bags...simply genius! My Brothers and I met you in person a in 2007 in Naperville, IL and it will remain one of the most memorable moments of my life! My Question, at the moment what is your inspiration and how do you come about finding what it is?
God Bless You, Your Family and All! Matt

Newbie: Talked To Mike After A Show
|
Hi Mike, Many many congratulations to you and Jules on climbing Kilimanjaro - talk about INSPIRATIONAL. I swear if you look up Mike Peters in the encyclopedia Britannica it says INSPIRATIONAL. Anyway just wanted to ask you about The Alarm 2000 box set which I think is an astonishing piece of work.It really is a fantastic piece of work and I was wondering how on earth you managed to create so many great songs in such a short space of time ? Gifts from above? Best wishes, Steve Leicester

Hi Mike looking forward to the up coming shows and releases.i also think flesh and blood is one of your best albums albeit a little on the short side but some beautiful songs on it.definitely deserves a reissue but with the songs expanded.(i was privileged to be there to hear it being recorded in Cardiff) my question is 1.Over your career i would imagine you have met many famous people/ celebrity's,who is the most famous person that has said to you " You're Mike Peters from THE ALARM" anyway thanks for the last 24 years i can honestly say that the four lads who shook the world for me will always be The Alarm.Thank you David Smith

What are your thoughts on all the Elvis Syndrome 'yes' comments from some fans, do you prefer constructive criticism? i.e. Gt sounding like Green Day?
Thanks!
I wouldn't for a moment think I could answer these questions for Mike but I think it is worth pointing out a couple of things Baron because sometimes some of us wonder what goes on inside your head! Baron, the Website is still a work in progress and I think Steve Fulton has done a great job so far. I think that when the site is fully operational then we might have something to say about it. For the moment I think it's pretty good. As to Mike preference for "less contact with fans now than in the period leading up to 2001?" If you have seen any of the shows of the past couple of years you will have noticed that Mike is quite into the spirit of getting among the crowd during shows. As to contact when off the stage I think a lot of folks who have spoken to him in the past eight years (seeing that you mention 2001)all would say he is one of the most approachable people you could ever meet. "Elvis Syndrome!" that's a new one on me. I would imagine that Mike welcomes criticism when it is valid and constructive, and I'm sure Baron that not every Alarm fan agrees with everything Mike has done or what the band have done over the years. I think though saying that GT sounded like Green Day is not necessarily a criticism that Mike and the band would have an issue with. Just my thoughts mate. I'm sure Mike will have something to say about it tomorrow on Day 2 of 21 Days.

RE: Blue Baron & Craigslist
I have to admit that the site does have a very "utilitarian" feel to it. While there are still tons of updates and fixes to make, flourishes here and there, etc., the main ideas will stay pretty much the same: get as much information out there as possible and let it speak for itself.
The internet has changed a lot since 1996. (I made that site too with Gary Overington). Back then it was all about graphics and links and little else. Today, data, feeds, connections to other sites, social networks, consuming services, etc. are all the order if the day. There really is no use for a web site that simply looks good, but has nothing to offer any other sites.
The site is here to promote The Alarm, past, present and future and to get the word out in every way possible. That can't be done while stranded on pretty little island all alone. Facebook, Craigslist, Twitter, etc. are very simple looking sites, but also very very successful.
I appreciate the comments, and I will use them to help improve the site.
-Steve

Steve, I think you are doing a great job here. The site is always evolving in the the most positve ways, and the information is always timely and relevant. There is so much stuff packed into this web site. I give you lots of credit for doing all this. Keep up the great work.

Newbie: Just Learned About The Gathering

Hi Mike, Thanks for the replies to the last set of questions, some great answers. Got loads of Alarm/Mike Peters memories, one that I remember fondly was at The Glasgow Barrowland 22nd or 23rd December 1985, it was the last night of the tour and a small scuffle broke out in the crowd and one Mike Peters said from the stage, ‘there’ll be no fighting tonight, if anyone wants to fight they’ll have to go through me first’ 1, Anyway that night you played ‘pinball wizard’ as an encore and of late the punk medley at The Gathering’s. What non Alarm/Mike Peters song do enjoy covering most? 2, Still on the subject of covers, On the 3 4 1 tour ‘21st Century Boy’ was an encore, who’s idea was that? 3, What makes Mike Peters laugh? who is your favourite comedian? what is your favourite show? 4, Mike back in the ‘off the beaten track’ tour you played some very intimate gigs, my home town of East Kilbride (Arts Centre) being one of them, you have also played some massive gigs like Wembley, the San Siro and UCLA, There must be some real Challenges, differences in doing a small gig to a stadium gig, which do you prefer? 5, Steve Grantley Recently interviewed Topper Headon of The Clash, who would you like to interview? Take Care James ,
