Dave has been asked to support the reunited Big Country at their two gigs in Scotland next month.
Dave has been friends with Big Country since they and The Alarm rose to prominence at the same period in the early 80s, so when
the remaining members announced that they were to play two shows to celebrate the bands 25th Anniversary, it was an invitation he could not
refuse.
The shows on July 20th in Glasgow & July 21st in Aberdeen will be Big Country's first since guitarist & singer Stuart Adamson tragically passed away in December 2001.
Back then, the remaining three members had no thoughts of performing as Big Country again. But now bass player and vocalist Tony Butler, drummer Mark Brzezicki and guitarist Bruce Watson feel compelled to unite to celebrate
the band’s quarter century landmark with some live shows.
The trio will perform some of their best-loved hits, a selection of popular tracks that
were not played live much in the past, and some brand new material.
'We thought it would be cool to get together again, and go out and play some intimate shows, and play some of the back catalogue and give the fans what they have been crying out for,' says Bruce Watson.
'For many years I did not think, to try and even think, that Big Country could exist without Stuart Adamson. We were a unique band.
But that was then.
The years have moved on and the desire to play music with my old friends has become too much to resist.
The Big Country we all remember will forever have a place in our hearts, but Big Country will continue with a renewed spirit and passion, a new adventure. We just want to have fun,' stresses Tony Butler.
And Mark Brzezicki adds: 'It felt the right time to continue the journey with Big Country not only out of respect to our wonderful past, but with renewed optimism for the future. We could never replace Stuart, so we haven't, but have now evolved and proudly carry on the natural progression that he would have expected and been proud of.'
