They are the Boomtown Rats in all but name - it's just that Geldof won't let them use the name. Johnnie Fingers and Gerry Cott are joining the band at some gigs.
I've seen The Rats play at the 100 Club in London before Christmas and they were utterly brilliant. They are really full-on. The best gig I've seen in years!
Garry Roberts (guitar) and Simon Crowe (drums) were the the main driving force of the Boomtown Rats 'sound' for the 1st 3 albums - so they play songs from those 3 albums (The Boomtown Rats, Tonic For The Troops, and Fine Art of Surfacing).
Set list includes She So's Modern, Looking After No1, Mary of the 4th Form, Diamond Smiles, Someone's looking At You, Rat Trap, I Don't Like Mondays etc. etc.
Rat Trap and I Don't Like Mondays are done differently than on record and instead they sound more like The Alarm or Stiff Little Fingers. They really blew me away.

I can tell you they now sound like they did at their best. I'm going to see them again at Crewe on Friday night and tickets are quite cheap. Well worth travelling to the gig if you live anywhere in the North-West.
I would think that people into The Alarm would really like The (Boomtown) Rats live.
