Help required on private messages - tried to send one to another person in my buddies and I get no permissions from the other member.

Help...............

I actually added Misti just now to see if it would work, but when i went to pm her the you don't have permission thingy came up again.
Is it that the other person receives some kind of buddy "notice" and has to accept you as a friend first before you can pm them?

I think that's it Lily, the other person has to add you to their list too.

actually, i hadn't tried to do anything with pms yet, til i saw your post. when i did, i went to the permissions myspace page and was told i couldn't access it. when i went to see what permissions i had, these were all that came up as given to me by the admins:

Personal Permissions
View Own MySpace
Use Signature
Use Avatar
Update Profile
View Public Profiles
Can upload avatars to site
General Groupee Community Access
Can View Private Messages
Can Create/Edit Private Messages
Can Join Premium Groups
Edit Own Custom Title
Allow HTML in posts
Set Custom Avatar URL
View Member Directory

but only some of those were checked. view/create/edit private messages were not.

i don't know, i'm so confused now, lol

ok, i didn't get any kind of notice. what i did do was go and add you as my buddy. i then tried to pm you, and got that same message that i needed permission to create/view private messages.
ah well

I've adjusted some things so lets see if this is working, shall we?


Click on the name of someone whom you want to send a private message. If you want you can add them to you 'buddies', to always keep their name handy.

Click on "Invite (name of member) to a Private Topic"

Type message and click "post".

To get to your "mailbox"
Click on the tab that says "Go"
Then move your cursor over the "My Space"
When the list comes up, click on "Private Messaging"

To send a message to people you've added as "buddies". Click on the "New" tab and then "Private Message".

This will bring up a box that will allow you to pm one or more of you buddies with the same message.

I think it's all working great now.
I just have to keep remembering to check that little p.m. box up top.

This bleedin forum doesn't let you know you have new PM'S when you sign in !!!

Only when you click onto PM's do you find out if you have any or not ???

To answer pm no 7 ....The link you suplied to the forum for Dave Sharp's website is locked?...etc....

To read anything on Dave Sharp discussion page you have to register.

Look at the tool bar at the top when you log on.
It says; Go - New - Find - Notify - Tools - Reply - "New PM" ... When there is a new pm.
