Any chance of taking off the Christmas message intro, it slows down my PC and sometimes stops me from being able to get into the site

Hi folks. Am i just really thick or am i doing something wrong? When i click on to the "Days in history" site, i am always expecting some information about that headline. But there is never anything happening and i get so cross coz i am expecting some facts and figures but all i get is a change in photograph.Is that normal or am i losing the plot??!!
