The Alarm - Guerilla Tactics In The UK - Ticket Information

Throughout November 2008, The Alarm will undertake a UK residency tour billed as 'Guerilla Tactics In The UK'.

The Alarm will perform three separate shows in four major UK cities (Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester and London), over three weeks.

Beginning on Thursday 6th of November in Cardiff at The Point, the band will then head North on Friday 7th of November to perform at Glasgow's legendary King Tuts. The next night, Saturday 8th of November will see The Alarm in action at Manchester Academy before moving south to the capital city of London for a Tuesday 11th of November concert at Islington Carling Academy. This entire sequence will be repeated for a further two weeks with, most importantly, the band playing different sets each week. [See below for full tour details].

Ticket prices are £15 for each show. [Booking fees apply]
NB: Buy tickets for all three shows in one city and receive a special commemorative Tour Laminate Pass (plus benefit from a reduced booking fee). Here at www.thealarm.com we endeavour to keep the booking / postage fee as cheap as possible.

Mike Peters describes the event as a natural extension of the Saturday Gig campaign that has been so well received during the last few years. The tour is based on 'The Alarm Make A Stand In The USA' tour that was so successful back in late 2003.

It creates a platform for the band to play songs from all eras of The Alarm's career, from 'Unsafe Building' to 'Guerilla Tactics'.

"Playing three nights in each city allows us to show the full range of our abilities as a band and take some of the spirit of The Gathering with us out into other parts of the U.K." says Mike Peters. "It's well known that we have a huge arsenal of songs at our disposal in The Alarm and 'Guerilla Tactics In The U.K.' will allow us and the audience to embrace songs from The Alarm's back pages and get up close and personal with the energy driving The Alarm's music of today".

Thursdays 06th / 13th / 20th November Cardiff The Point
Fridays 07th / 14th / 21st November Glasgow King Tuts
Saturdays 08th / 15th / 22nd November Manchester Academy
Tuesdays 11th / 18th/ 25th November London Islington Carling Academy

I think this is the UK version of something the band did in the States a few years back.
Few years back? Lord it was 2003. What was I thinking and where did the time go?

Anyway…They did what could be referred to as some kind insane residency where the band played a venue in four separate cities on the same night every week for almost a month.

It was dubbed something like The Alarm take a Stand in America and it was aimed to play off the fact that it was the 20th anniversary of The Stand’s release as single. The band would take a ‘stand’ if you will in each city for a month. Well, it was three gigs each. Mondays in New York, Boston on Tuesday or Wednesday, Thursdays in Chicago and Friday or Saturday in LA. (kind of hazy)

The residency also served as a springboard for live renditions of the Poppyfields material. It was billed that the sets would be different each week which led me to believe that we would be blessed with hearing all the new songs tried out live but I guess that was just my wishful thinking. The sets technically were not identical (same song, same order) but there were really only a slight number of song substitutions each week. That is not to say it was not bloody marvelous to see the Alarm every Monday for three weeks in New York plus a night on Long Island.

All the more incredible, the plan was that you could buy a recording of the previous week’s show (at least in NY) the following week after Mike mixed the performance on the road that week. I know the recording happened for the first show but I recall (here comes the haze again) something happened where it was not available one of the following weeks. I’ll have to check which weeks I have. I remember being disappointed that there might not be a CD of the night the band played Clash and Big Country covers plus what I thought was a killer rendition of Drunk and Disorderly.

Other NY highlights:
The best T-shirt of recent times with a giant “Back in the USA” across the bottom and an awesome stage shot of the band.

Simo's 45RPM mosh pit antics.

As for the UK shows: the release indicates that it will different sets each week. See the top of this thread.

Have also not bought tickets yet and am a regular gig goer. My reasons are exactly the same. I cant afford all three with the travelling and overnight stays so would like to know what the difference is if any otherwise I may not attend any.

Would love to see a set of just the new songs...now which one is that?
